Public Interest Technology Midwest (PIT-MW) connects higher education and workforce development to advance ethical, inclusive tech across the Midwest.
PIT-MW embraces a wide-ranging vision of Public Interest Technology (PIT). More than just serving the public good, PIT is rooted in values like ethics, justice, equity, co-design, empathy, transparency, and accountability. It’s a field that cuts across sectors—impacting government, academia, nonprofits, and industry alike. While not every challenge may be labeled a “PIT problem,” the tools and mindset of PIT can be applied broadly to design thoughtful, responsible tech solutions that reduce harm and create meaningful, positive change.
Join us for the PIT-Midwest initiative showcasing student innovators advancing technology for the public good. The symposium brings together projects from across the region, spotlighting the next generation of technologists building tools and ideas that matter, including work in data science for social impact, policymaking and analysis, and civic engagement.
PIT-Midwest connects technologists, public servants, nonprofits, and organizers across the region to design, test, and deploy people-first technology. Grounded in equity, accessibility, privacy, and measurable outcomes, we bridge universities, city halls, libraries, and grassroots groups to share code, data, and playbooks.
The Project Amplification Initiative packages member projects into concise, shareable assets and syndicates them across our Midwest network—web, newsletters, and partner channels—so results and lessons travel farther and get reused.
